Flim Flams

Flim Flams is a high-energy showcase for snare drums and tom-toms built around one of percussion’s most expressive rudiments: the flam. From tight, crackling unisons to echoing exchanges across the ensemble, the piece explores the subtle tension between precision and controlled chaos. The familiar snap of the flam becomes the engine of momentum—sometimes crisp and military, sometimes loose and playful—driving rhythmic conversations that ricochet between players.

Kerfuffle

Here is a spirited percussion ensemble piece built on motion—both musical and physical. Throughout the work, players rotate instruments: mallet performers exchange places with one another, while the non-mallet players do the same. The result is a lively reshuffling of timbres, textures, and roles that keeps both performers and listeners delightfully off balance.

What begins as an orderly groove gradually evolves into a playful commotion, as shifting colours and rhythmic interplay create the musical equivalent of a good-natured uproar. In Kerfuffle, the fun is not just in the sound, but in the constant transformation that brings it to life.

Magic Carpet

Wanna have some fun? Of course you do! And there's plenty enough for all in this new adventure for young malleteers. A catchy tune, exotic harmonies and lilting rhythmic grooves will carry you across the horizon into the mystical realm of genies, wizards and sorcery. So turn that frown upside down, pick up a mallet or two and let this one cast a spell on you. You never know when you'll run into a marimba-xylo-bongophone!!

Flim Flams

Originally conceived during the pandemic, the piece was designed to be performed not only on drums but also on table tops—proving that rhythm needs no stage, only imagination and a steady pair of hands.

In Flim Flams, a simple grace note grows into a full rhythmic vocabulary.

Sticks Around

Sticks Around (A Round for Sticks) explores the surprising versatility of the simplest tool in percussion: the stick. Built as a round, the piece layers repeating rhythmic patterns that enter successively, interlocking to create texture, momentum, and subtle harmonic color through pure rhythm.

As each voice “sticks around,” the overlapping lines transform a simple idea into something far richer than its individual parts. The result is playful, hypnotic, and proof that even the most basic materials—just sticks and time—can generate vibrant musical architecture.

Three Strikes

Three Strikes draws inspiration from the dramatic finality of its title. Bold rhythmic motives return with increasing intensity, building momentum through repetition and variation. Whether suggesting the crack of the bat or the decisive call from the umpire, the piece thrives on precision, drive, and the power of three.

Um… It’s Complicated

Um… It’s Complicated plays with layered rhythms and shifting meters that refuse to settle comfortably in one place. Patterns overlap, interrupt, and realign, creating a texture that feels delightfully tangled yet carefully constructed. Beneath the surface complexity lies a steady pulse that holds everything together—reminding us that even the most intricate situations can find their balance.
